Course Description

Imagine spending your mini-term taking in the beauty and wonder of the outdoors. We will take walks near Bentley including the Lafayette Reservoir, and hikes in parks such as Tilden, Sibley, Briones, and the Marin Headlands. While outdoors, you will take pictures of people, animals, objects, landscapes, and other parts of the natural world. At the end of the course you will make a photo book. We will study the geology and nature of the local sites. In addition, you will learn the basics of how to use the camera and image-editing software. We will spend a significant amount of time walking and hiking.

Requirements:  Fitness: you must be able to walk to and around the Lafayette Reservoir and the equivalent. Clothing: rain gear and appropriate footwear.  Scheduling: the beach trip will take four hours (instead of three hours) and is scheduled for Monday March 1 with a backup date of March 3. Computer access: you will need to download images from your camera at home or at school outside class hours.

Required materials: digital camera, USB flash drive.

Required text: none.

Student fees: $25 will cover a photo book with your own work.
